Australia is getting closer and closer to its announcement to register domains directly under .au

As early as April 2015, we informed you that the Australian registry was considering allowing registrations of domains directly under the top-level domain (TLD) .au.

So far, interested parties can only register domains under the various second level domains (SLD) such as .com.au, gov.au or others.

The panel for the naming guidelines of this TLD has now published its drafts for the recommendations. Among other things, these are that legal and natural persons from Australia may register .au domains directly under the TLD. The usual SLDs such as .com.au should remain parallel and can be registered.

The main reason for the changes to the registration conditions is that direct registrations under .au offer more possibilities: Domain names are becoming shorter, more appealing and ultimately better remembered. The Panel stresses that any possible changes to the registration conditions must be as much about trust and security as it is already being confirmed for the Australian SLDs.

It has now published the drafts for the final round before making its final recommendation. These can be commented on until September 30, 2015.

As soon as there is new information about the changed registration conditions, we will publish this in the usual place. 123domain.eu advises you regarding the registration of your desired domains in Australia and assists you with all questions regarding domain management.
